RALEIGH - Jonnie Faye Barnes Thompson, of the Abbottswood Retirement Community, Raleigh, died Thursday, November 14, 2013.
Funeral, Tuesday, 11:00 AM, Benson Memorial United Methodist Church, 4676 Creedmoor Road, Raleigh, followed by a time of visiting and sharing. Interment, Tuesday, 3:30 PM, Black Creek Cemetery, off Highway 264, exit 46, in Wilson County.
Surviving is her son, Steven R. Thompson (Debbie) of Pasadena, CA; sister, Rebecca Townsend (Jack) of Wilson; several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Thompson, a native of Wilson County, was preceded in death by her husband, Walton R. Thompson, in 2008 and by a daughter, Kent T. Baumann.
She taught school in Wrightsville Beach during World War II and was on the staff of the Western Reserve Historical Society of Ohio while the couple lived there. She enjoyed working with her husband when they owned Flowers by Thompson and also Designs by Walton both in Goldsboro. Church music was important to her as she was a choir member for almost 50 years.
