John Shelton

John Edwin Shelton, 84, of Stantonsburg, died Wednesday, March 6, 2024.

A graveside service will be Monday, March 11, 11:00 AM, at the Stantonsburg Cemetery.  

John was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Pope Air Force Base in the 464 Consolidated Aircraft Maintenance Squadron as an electronic technician, serving in the Philippines and Vietnam.   His civilian career was with the U.S. Navy for 32 years as a tech rep GS-12 specializing in electronic equipment testing and shipboard supervising, calibration, and repair of shipboard defense systems.  He traveled worldwide to support the fleet.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Margielene “Margie” Gardner Shelton; daughter, Sonya Flora (Bob) of Clayton; son, Chris Shelton (Janet) of Chesapeake, VA; granddaughter, Elizabeth Collins (Tyler); grandsons, Matthew Flora (Laura) and William Flora (Erica); five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by a daughter, Karey Leigh Shelton; parents, William Leslie Shelton, Jr. and Mary Temperance Taylor Shelton; brother, Bill Shelton.
