John Carper Phillips, 90, went to his Heavenly home May 5, 2020.
A family graveside service will be in Wilson on May 13, 2020.
Our Dad, Grandpa, and Uncle was a very loving person. He had a wonderful sense of humor that kept us all laughing. He was a committed provider for his family and his loving wife Frances. Nothing made Dad happier than getting together with family or friends around a wonderful meal. John retired from the USDA as a National Program Review Officer after 30 years of service. He decided to start a second career and worked 10 years in IT at BASF.
Born in Farmville on April 4, 1930 to Preston Gray Phillips and Mable Skinner Phillips, he was the youngest son of eleven children. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Frances Speight Phillips; daughter, Gwen Ballance; parents, Preston and Mable Phillips as well as eight brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his daughters, Carol Currence (Jim Scott) and Gail Scott, both of Charlotte; sons, Greg Phillips (Carolyn) of Marvin and Charles Phillips (Cathy) of Indian Trail; sisters, Faye Thomas of Shalimar, FL and Doris Barnes of Wilson; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He will be sorely missed and forever loved.
