WILSON - John Mimms Conkwright, 71, of Wilson and Arapahoe, died Friday, November 27, 2015.
A Celebration of Life Service will be Thursday, 11 AM, at Wilson Memorial Service, followed by visitation.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Edloe Mimms Conkwright and Pleasant Jefferson Conkwright of Winchester, KY.
He graduated from Eastern Kentucky University and Purdue University. He started his career in heavy roadway construction at Codell Construction in Winchester and ended his career as Executive Vice President of Operation at Vecellio and Grogan Contracting in Beckley, West Virginia. He was self-taught in many areas and highly motivated as witnessed by receiving professional engineering status in civil and mining engineering as well as passing the first year exam for the California Bar. John had many interests in life including playing guitar and banjo, whip cracking, along with motorcycle and horseback riding - a full life for a selfless man.
John is survived by his wife, Jill Cherry Conkwright; sons, William Hughes Conkwright and Michael Mimms Conkwright; daughter, Katherine Ware Conkwright and granddaughters, Madilyn Mimms Conkwright and Mary Catherine Conkwright; sister, Lucinda Gaines.
