WILSON - Joan Lorna Rodgers Williams, 64, died Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at home in the loving care of her family.

Funeral, Friday, 2:00 PM, First Baptist Church. Interment, Evergreen Memorial Park.

She was born on October 2, 1948, in the old Woodard-Herring Hospital in Wilson to Etta Lucille Pike Rodgers and the late James Archie Rodgers.

Joan graduated from Atlantic Christian College in 1971 with a Bachelors of Science degree, from East Carolina University in 1977 with a Masters of Arts in Education (supervision) and in 1998 with a Masters of Library Science. She was employed with Wilson County Schools for over 30 years with over 20 of those in Math and another 10 plus as a Media Coordinator.

Joan was affected by N.M.O. - Neuromyelitis Optica (Devic's Disease) in 2006 only two years after her retirement. She had many challenges with this disease; she could never understand - why? Devic's Disease is commonly referred to as the bad brother to Multiple Sclerosis.

Surviving is her husband of over 37 years, Jerold B. Williams; daughter, Jessica W. Spruill (Nicholas); son, Jason B. Williams; grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Connor Spruill; her mother, Lucille Rodgers, all of Wilson; brother, Billy G. Rodgers (Nancy); niece, Anne-Tucker Rodgers and nephew, Gray Rodgers, all of Roanoke Rapids; a multitude of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

The family will be at Wilson Memorial Service, Thursday, 6:30 - 8:30 PM.
