WILSON - Joan Harper Garris, 71, died Monday, April 14, 2014.
Funeral, Wednesday, 2 PM, Covenant Presbyterian Church, followed by a time of visiting and sharing.
Joan was a native of Lenoir County. She graduated from the Wilson School of Nursing in 1964. Her nursing career of 32 years in Wilson County began as a physicians office nurse and on to various positions in the County Health Department and Wilson Memorial Hospital before retiring in 2006. She was awarded her bachelors degree in nursing from Barton in 1995.
She was an early member of Covenant Presbyterian Church and was very active in many aspects of the church. Joan was named Woman of the Year by the Presbyterian Women at the church.
Surviving is her husband, Billy Garris; sons, Chris Garris of Raleigh and Steve Garris (Cindy) of Raleigh; granddaughter, Lauren Garris; sister, Jacquelyn Bargoil (Phil) of Advance.
The family will be at Wilson Memorial Service Tuesday, 6:30 - 8 PM.
