WILSON - Jennifer Jansen Jones, 69, passed away Monday, March 3, 2014, following an illness that weakened her body, but never her spirit. She was surrounded by the loving family she created, who were blessed to have known her kind and caring soul.
Jennifer was passionate about teaching. She was a 4th grade teacher, teaching at Darden-Vick, Margaret Hearne and Wells Elementary Schools.
Children were naturally drawn to her fun loving spirit. She retired in 2009 to do what she loved most: spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed painting classes, traveling Europe and spending time with friends.
She is survived by her loving husband, Robert A. "Bob" Jones; daughters, Amy Appert Windley and husband, John; Betsy Appert Hamilton and husband, David; son, Gregory Appert and wife, Catherine; stepsons, Christopher Jones; Doug Jones and wife, Michele; brother, Charles Ray Jansen and wife, Rosemary; and 9 adoring grandchildren, Owen and Samuel Windley, Walker and Hayden Elizabeth Hamilton, Charles Appert, Doug, Ashley, Hannah and Drew Jones.
The family will be receiving visitors at Wilson Memorial Service, Wednesday, 6-7:30 PM. A Mass will be held Thursday, at 2 PM, St. Therese Catholic Church, 700 Nash St NE, Wilson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl, Memphis, TN 38105-1905 or The University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center, PO Box 301439, Houston, TX 77230-1439.
If you would like to honor Jennifer Jansen Jones, please consider donating a hard cover book in her memory. All books will be donated to the Wells Elementary and Hearne Elementary School libraries. Books will be collected at the visitation Wednesday night as well as at the Mass Thursday.
