Janice Chase

Janice Sasser Chase, 96, of Eureka, passed away peacefully at home on July 12, 2024. 

The funeral will be Sunday, July 14, 2024, 3:00 p.m., at Eureka Methodist Church, 128 N Church St, Eureka. Visitation and graveside will follow the service.

Mrs. Chase lived in Eureka for nearly 70 years after marrying the late Thomas Edward Chase in 1953. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Chase is preceded in death by her beloved parents Mr. and Mrs. Ether Joseph Sasser, her mother-in-law and former NC Representative Nancy W. Chase, and her siblings Leona Cobb and EJ Sasser. Mrs. Chase loved her community, faithfully serving in the choir and as a musician for Eureka Methodist Church and working as a high school home economics teacher and exceptional children's teacher in Wayne County.  Above all, Mrs. Chase was a proud mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. 

She is survived by her daughter Luellen Chase Massey (Louis) and son John ("Johnny") Bryant Chase II of Eureka; grandchildren, Thomas Chase Massey (Emily) of Raleigh and Carlisle Jackson Massey of Eureka; great-grandchildren, Reese, Thomas, and Katie Massey; nieces, Nancy Chase of Atlanta, Georgia, Jan Cobb Fairley (Clay) of Southport, and Sue Cobb Webb (Ricky) of Stantonsburg; grand-nieces and nephews Amanda Fairley (Patrick), Elizabeth Fairley (Dan), John Thomas Fairley (Adriana), Thomas Webb (Carra), and Leigh Webb; and beloved great-nieces and nephews. 

Heartfelt thanks to Diana Ellis and Brenda Pate for caring for Mrs. Chase during her beautiful life.
