WILSON - James G. Lamm, 84, died Friday, November 13, 2009.

Funeral, Sunday, 3 PM, Maplewood Cemetery, 400 College St, NE, Wilson (Section E).

James Gray "Jimmy" Lamm was born on May 2, 1925 in Wilson County to the late Mr. and Mrs. W.T. Lamm, Sr. He graduated from Charles L. Coon High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill - Class of 1948 and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta.

Upon graduation, he returned to Wilson and joined the family firm, W.T. Lamm Cotton Company, founded by his father in 1919. In the community, he served on the Board of Trustees of the Wilson County Public Library for 37 years and was instrumental in planning for additions in 1976 and 2004. Dr. Ross Albert encouraged him to become a charter member of the Wilson Chorale. At the state level, he served on the Board of Trustees of Peace College in Raleigh for 12 years.

Jimmy was a member of First United Methodist Church for 75 years. He served in various capacities and was in the chancel choir for over 20 years.

Surviving are his daughters, Susan Cozart Lamm Canady of Wilson, Sarah Gray Lamm of Chapel Hill and Elizabeth Schaum Hunt and her husband, Scott, of Wilmington; grandchildren, William James Hunt, Sarah Elizabeth Hunt, Thomas Robeson Canady, Jr. and James Gray Canady; brother, Harry L. Lamm of Wilson. His wife of 55 years, Elizabeth "Betsy" Cozart Schaum Lamm, died in December, 2006.

The family will be at 928 Brookside Drive.
