James Creasy, Jr

WILSON - James "Jimmy" Valno Creasy, Jr., 91, died Sunday, November 13, 2011.

Funeral, Wednesday, 11 AM, First United Methodist Church, followed by a time of sharing and visiting. Interment, Maplewood Cemetery, next to his wife, Claudia Lucas Creasy, who died in 2008.

Jimmy was born in New Hanover County and graduated from Atlantic Christian College (Barton) in 1942. He served in the Coast Guard during World War II and returned home to begin work in the railroad industry. Claudia and Jimmy were married in 1952 enjoying 56 years together. They began in Rocky Mount where they were members of the Englewood United Methodist Church until moving to Jacksonville, FL, some 15 years later.

In Jacksonville for some 20 years, he rose to assistant to the Vice-President of Seaboard Coastline Railway. While there, they were members of Glenlea United Methodist Church. He developed an interest in orchids and became a growing member of the Florida Orchid Association.

In 1983, they retired to Wilson. He immediately became active in the NC Orchid Association and won numerous awards for special varieties he developed. He was invited into the Wilson Evening Kiwanis Club where he held every office at the local level and went on to distinguished service as a state Lieutant Governor. He was awarded the Legion of Honor for his leadership.

Surviving is his brother, John Creasy of Sussex, VA; sister-in-law, Nancy Lucas Bryant; nieces, Ethel Hamlin, Christine Narcomey, Pam C. Stamper, Sarah H. Belk, Claudia H. Daniels, Nancy B. Davis and Margaret B. Bost; nephews, John J. Creasy and Dwight Costible.
