James Edward Atkinson, 81, of Lucama passed away at Kitty Askins in Goldsboro on August 10, 2024 with his wife by his side.
A service will be held for and at the convenience of the family.
Born and raised in Richmond, VA he was the son of the late Robert N. Atkinson and Ella Mae Guthrie Atkinson.
He is survived by his wife Loretta Best Atkinson; sons, James E. Atkinson, Jr. (Vada) of Tennessee, Robert Atkinson (Donna) and Chris Atkinson of Virginia; daughter, Rhonda Atkinson of Virginia; stepson, Kenny Easter (Amanda) of Elm City; brother-in-law, Doug Best of Wilson; mother-in-law, Evelyn Taylor Best of Wilson; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
James was a loving husband and a hardworking man. He was a diesel mechanic for over forty years. He was transferred to North Carolina in 1980 with Estes Truck Lines as a diesel mechanic and later worked for Tri Point Ford in Raleigh until he retired. He married the love of his life Loretta in 2003.
He was preceded in death by his parents and was the last of seven siblings. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Dolly Easter.
