Horace N. Kerman, 98, a resident of Briarcliff Apartments, died Tuesday, August 16, 2005. Mr. Kerman joined Carolina Telephone in 1923 and retired in 1972. His jobs took him to towns like Rocky Mount, Tarboro, Wilson, Fremont, Kinston, Jacksonville and Louisburg, just to name a few. Co-workers called him "Mr. Carolina Telephone". He was proud to have held membership in and been active at various times in the Louisburg Rotary Club, Franklin County Boy Scouts, Telephone Pioneers of America [Tarboro Chapter], NRA, NC Law Enforcement Assn, NC Sheriffs Assn, TPA, Ducks Unlimited. He had been a member of First United Methodist Church for 54 years. Even this year, he was enjoying his fraternal and social contacts in Masonic Lodge AF & AM 712, Sudan Temple 100 Member Club, Shrine Clubs in Wilson, Rocky Mount and Elizabeth City. Funeral, Saturday, 11:00 AM, Maplewood Cemetery, Section C. Surviving is a daughter, Brenda Herman of Orlando, FL; a son, Horace N. Kerman, Jr, of Overton, NV; four grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and a step-brother, James Kerman of Norfolk, VA. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church, PO Box 1423, Wilson 27894. The family will be at Wilson Memorial Service, 2811 Fieldstream Dr, N, on Friday, 7:00 - 8:30 PM.
