WILSON - Hilton Carlton, 88, died Friday, May 13, 2016.
Funeral, Monday, 11:00 AM, First Baptist Church. The family will be at Wilson Memorial Service, Sunday, 5:00-6:30 PM.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Lancaster Carlton; sons, Lewis Carlton (friend, Tina Crawford) of Clayton and Kelly Carlton (Carol) of Wilson; grandchildren, Emily Carlton of Baltimore, MD, and Eric Carlton of Wilson; twin brother, Milton Carlton (Violet) of Pinetops.
Hilton was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Cable and Ida Crute Carlton of Edgecombe County; sisters: Lucille Cole (Hugh) and Lillian Carlton of Pinetops, Marguerite Phillips of Fountain, Mae Pendergrass Underwood (June) of Greensboro, Polly Coleman Hume (Evan) of Winchester, VA; brothers, J.C. Carlton (Nettie Mae), Lewis Carlton (Kitty Snow) and Leonard Carlton all of Pinetops and Robert Carlton of Shelby.
A graduate of West Edgecombe High School in Edgecombe County, he went on to serve in the Army for two years in Korea. Upon release he enrolled in Agriculture Economics at N.C. State University where he graduated in 1952.
Next was Wilson where he worked as a trust officer and Farm Manager for First Union National Bank until 1980. Upon early retirement, he and son, Kelly, formed Carlton Management Enterprises - Certified Rural Appraiser. It was during those years he served on the NC Board of Farm Managers.
In the community, he was a member of the Wilson Rotary Club and enjoyed being a part of the Meals on Wheels program. The former Exchange Club honored the couple in their Book of Golden Deeds.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Avante.
He loved his church, First Baptist, and served faithfully in many capacities there.
Memorials are suggested to the church, PO Box 1467, Wilson NC 27894-1467 and to the Avante Patient Social Fund, 1804 Forest Hills Rd W, Wilson NC 27893-3413 where he had been a resident in recent months.
