ELM CITY - H.C. Crumpler, Jr., 93, died Saturday, February 3, 2018.
Funeral, Tuesday, 2:00 PM, Wilson Memorial Service. The visitation will be from 1:00 – 1:45 PM. Interment, Cedar Grove Cemetery, Elm City.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Annie Mae Summerlin Crumpler; daughter, Sandy Crumpler of Elm City and son, Wayne Crumpler of Elm City; grandchildren, Tanner Clay Proctor of Elm City, Tonya Crumpler Summerlin of Wilson and Tara Crumpler Jayroe of Raleigh; six great-grandchildren.
Being a tobacco farmer was very important to him and he enjoyed fishing, hunting and raising dogs.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the European Theatre under Gen. Omar Bradley in the 1st Army, 69th Infantry Division. He was awarded four combat badges and the Bronze Star as his unit was in the Battle of the Bulge and several other significant battles.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Clay and Betty Baines Crumpler; sister, Betty Tant; half-sister, Pauline Cooper; half-brothers, Jimmy Flowers and Wilbur Flowers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oak Grove FWB Church, 5921 Bridgersville Rd, Elm City, NC 27822.
