WILSON – Harold Glen Pittman, 71, passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at Duke Hospital after a prolonged illness.

A celebration of life service will be Sunday, 2:00 PM, at Wilson Memorial Service followed by visitation.  Interment, with military rites will be in Maplewood Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Sheets Pittman; son, Matthew Pittman of Greenville; brothers, Stearle Pittman (May) of Greenville and Jim Pittman (Theresa) of Wilson; many nieces and nephews in North Carolina and Virginia.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, James A. and Mae Batten Pittman.

He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. He retired after 35 years from the North Carolina Department of Transportation Right of Way Branch as the Area Negotiator for Divisions 1, 2, and 4. Upon retirement, he was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine in October 2003, the highest award bestowed by the Governor, presented for exemplary service to the State of NC.  Harold also served 24 years in the United States Army Reserves, retiring as Master Sergeant.

An avid NC State fan, he cherished tailgating with family and friends and attending football and basketball games to cheer on the Wolfpack.  When not in Raleigh for games, he loved being on his boat “Prime Time”, riding the waves and catching fish in the waters just off Morehead City – where his friends at Mariners Cove nicknamed him “The Mayor”.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the charity of one’s choice.
