WILSON - George Gerald "Gerry" Davis, 80, a long-time resident of Wilson who was born in Farmville, died Friday, December 11. 2015 at Vidant Hospice in Greenville. He was born July 14, 1935 to the late George W. and Lila Lee Davis.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 19, 2015, 11AM at Wilson Memorial Service. Visitation will be from 10-11 AM.
Gerald was preceded in death by his partner of 49 years, Brook Volland and brother, Harry and sister-in-law, Mary Frances.
Survivors include his brother, Cedric and wife, Shirley, of Farmville; niece, Mary George and husband, Jim Smith of Raleigh; nephew and wife, Drs. Charles E. and Elizabeth Davis of Greenville, SC; nephew, Lee Davis of Winston-Salem; nephew, Scott Davis and wife, Patti, of Lincolnton; niece, Lisa, and husband Gary Bowne of Hickory; and nine great nieces and nephews.
He was a graduate of Farmville High School and Richmond Professional Institute (now VCU) before he apprenticed with a modeliste of Christian Dior's in Paris, France for a year. He worked in clothing design and sales in New York City and Grand Bahama Island before he and his partner moved to Wilson and established the business Gerald-Brook Boutique. In recent years he taught art and knitting at Wilson Community College.
