WILSON - Gary Dale Bunn, 55, died February 6, 2014.

The celebration of his life will be Monday, 6:30 PM at Wilson Memorial Service, followed by visitation.

Gary was born on March 21, 1958 to the late Naomi and Jake Bunn of Wilson. He was the youngest of six children. Armed with a strong will to live, he battled cancer with every ounce of being. He died peacefully on February 6, 2014 at Wilson Medical Center.

He is survived by his devoted wife of twenty years, Cindy Griffin Bunn; his three brothers, Terry (Diane), Jerry (Gail), Randy (Carolyn); and two sisters, Brenda Smith (Tommy) and Joann Godwin (Stan); his nephews, Ryan Bunn (Lori), Chris Bunn, Brandon Godwin, Brock Godwin (Jordan), Brent Bunn (Katie) and Brooks Bunn (Renee); two nieces, Amber Godwin and Kim Norris (Ron); he is also survived by one great niece and five great nephews and his mother-in-law, Nancy R. Griffin.

In addition to his parents he was preceded by his faithful furry companion, Casey.

Gary was educated in the Wilson County Schools and graduated from Rock Ridge High School in 1976. In school he excelled in baseball and football, his love of sports extended into his adult life where he enjoyed NASCAR sports and golf. He was an avid golfer at Wedgewood Country Club and fortunate enough to travel around the country to play on many nationally known courses. He was also a devoted Tarheel fan.

Gary's career in the building supply business began at an early age when he worked for his father at Wilson Bargain Center and spanned over four decades with various companies. Along the way he made many lifelong friends and acquaintances, both professionally and personally. He was highly respected for his tenacity and fairness. Throughout his illness he continued to work every day until his last week.

"God saw Gary getting tired; a cure not meant to be, so He put his arms around Gary and whispered "Come with me." We were blessed to have you as a husband, son, a brother and best friend. We will always love you and keep you in our Hearts."

The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to Animal Charities of your Choice or Cures For the Colors Foundation, 203 Cox Blvd, Goldsboro NC 27534 which provides monetary support for local cancer patients and caregivers.
