WILSON - Frederick J. Pepoon, Jr, 90, died Sunday, June 21, 2015.

Funeral, Wednesday, 10:00 AM, at Maplewood Cemetery.

Born in Passaic, NJ to Frederick J. Pepoon and Marie P. Bizak. He graduated from Clifton High School, Clifton, NJ in June 1943.

Fred volunteered for Aviation Cadet training in the Army Air Corps and earned his pilots wings in March 11, 1945 at Blytheville, Arkansas. Flight Officer Pepoon was assigned to Maxton Army Air Corps Base in Maxton, NC for glider training. He flew CG 14 and CG 15 gliders and also towed them with C-47 airplanes. Flight Officer Pepoon became Mr. Pepoon after serving his country for 2 ½ years.

He enrolled at NC State College of Agriculture and Engineering in September 1946. Completing the courses for a degree in Poultry Science he received his B.S. in 1950.

In July 1950 he began his career with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Poultry Division Grading Branch in New York City. Fred was promoted to the Washington, DC market as Officer in Charge in 1953 and then to Raleigh as Federal State Supervisor of Poultry Products Grading a position he held until his retirement in 1984.

Mr. Pepoon leaves a loving wife, Kathryn Jeanne Hansen; two daughters, Lauren Pepoon Dutcher and husband, Dale and granddaughter, Dianna of Cary and Kimberlee Pepoon Mabry of Clayton; step-sons, Stacy A. Bagwell and wife, Suzanne, and their daughter, Valerie, of Wilson and Sean C. Bagwell and wife, Meredith, and their daughter, Emily, of Charleston, SC.
