WILSON - Frances Cole Andrews, 76, widow of W. Van Andrews, died Friday, August 19, 2005, at Wilson Medical Center. Frances slipped away peacefully into sweet release surrounded by a caring nurse, friends and family. She was born in Hamlet on January 20, 1929, but grew up in Franklin County and graduated from Louisburg College. With her husband, who died in 1992, the couple had formed Andrews Insurance Agency in 1949. The agency grew and evolved into what is now The Planning Group, owned and operated by their twin sons, Robert and William Andrews. Many people across North Carolina and the nation will remember Frances for her creativity in cooking and for winning numerous cooking contests. Her first venture in "contesting" was in Kenly in the early eighties when she won first place for her Lily White biscuits. She went on to win local, state and national awards culminating in Sacramento, California, with a first place award in the National Beef Cook Off in 1992. The North Carolina Commissioner of Agriculture awarded her the honor of Distinguished Gourmet. Frances loved and was loved. Her character and personality was one of loving kindness and blessings to all with whom she met. She was a dignified lady, a perfectionist, courageous in sickness and strong in Christian principles. She was a loving mother, steadfast in teaching her children to love the Lord and to be good citizens. She was proud that each of her three boys earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Surviving are three sons, William "Bill" C .
