Frances Anderson
October 3, 1926 — June 25, 2014
WILSON - Frances Powell Anderson, 87, entered her new life with our Lord June 25, 2014.
Funeral, Friday, 2 PM, Winstead United Methodist Church. The visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Franklin and Lizzie Powell, and by her husband, Clarence Aubrey Anderson, who died in 2004.
She is survived by daughter, Mary Ellen Anderson of Raleigh and her daughter, Aubrey Elizabeth Barker a rising junior at UNC; daughter, Martha Anderson and her husband, Kevin Murphy of Waynesville; sisters, Janice McLawhorn and Lorraine Pridgen; brother, Jimmy Powell and many special nieces and nephews.
Frances was born in Craven County. After graduating from Farm Life High School she attended Louisburg College and obtained her RN in Morganton. She worked as a nurse in Greenville for many years before the family moved to Wilson in 1958. She then helped Aubrey run a grocery store after the move to Wilson. She briefly returned to nursing but she felt there was too much paper work and wanted more patient contact. She found an outlet in caring for others spending many years as a hospice volunteer in Wilson, including the honor of being named hospice volunteer of the year.
Frances loved her church family at Winstead Methodist Church. Her many friends have provided caring and unfailing support.
