Evelyn Rooker Manning, 94, of Wilson, passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2022.
A graveside service will be held at a later date.
Known for her servant heart, she always placed others' needs before her own, especially those of her family. She enjoyed volunteering weekly as a Gray Lady at Wilson Memorial Hospital for many years and enjoyed teaching children’s Sunday School classes at First United Methodist Church.
She was born April 29, 1928, in Vance County to the late Waverly and Maude Rooker. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Lee Rooker, Elsie Lane, Dorothy Grissom, and Margaret Holloway. Her husband of 51 years, Willis M. Manning, Jr., died in 2000.
Surviving are her daughters, Helen Palmer (Eddie) of Southport and Nancy Johnston (Russ) of Bluffton, SC; son, Mel Manning (Tammy) of Wilson; grandchildren, Ciara Palmer, Breanna Walder (Tommy), Russell Johnston (Lauren), Allison Hubbard (Ted), Christopher Manning (Meredith), Tyler Manning (Rebecca) and Blake Manning; great-grandchildren, Autumn, Karsyn, Tanner, Jack, Evelyn, Olivia, Graham, Davis and Noah.
The family wishes to thank Grace Hannah for her years of friendship and care, and the staff of The Landing, Parkwood Village, The Brian Center, and Community Health and Hospice.
