WILSON - Emma Lee "Emilie" Crawford Gardner English, 92, died Sunday, February 8, 2015.
Funeral will be Thursday, February 12, at 11:00 AM at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, Wilson, followed by visitation at the church. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery.
Ms. English was born August 24, 1922 in Wilson County to Robert Lee Crawford and Nannie Barnes Crawford. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Katherine Crawford McKinney of San Diego, CA; and three brothers, Robert David Crawford, Melbourne FL; Luther Barnes Crawford, Washington, DC; and James Sydney Crawford, Atlanta, GA; former husbands, W. Allen Gardner and Donald T. English, son-in-law, Robert E. "Jack" Jobe.
She is survived by daughters, Dr. Linda Gardner Jobe, Enfield and Patricia Allan Gardner, Boynton Beach, FL; a grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Dr. R. Lee Jobe and Donna C. Jobe, Raleigh; two great- grandchildren, Tyler Jobe and Lydia Jobe, Raleigh; three nephews, Lloyd Smith Crawford, Mark Crawford, and Lee Crawford, all of Georgia.
Ms. English was a trained Red Cross volunteer and joined the Army Nurses' Aid Corps at Camp Butler, NC during World War II. She worked as doctor's assistant, Welcome Wagon hostess, area supervisor and executive supervisor, hotel sales director, technical college hospitality instructor, and director of the Country Doctor Museum.
Ms. English was active in church and civic organizations, serving as president of the American Legion Auxiliary; State Campaign chairman of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society; Board of Directors of Travel Council of North Carolina; moderator of panel discussion, HSMA International Convention, Dublin, Ireland; president of Church Women United; president of the John W. Dunham chapter of the UDC; chair Real Daughter Survey, NC Division, UDC; chair, Wilson Historic Properties Commission; president of Episcopal Church Women, and chair of St. Francis Guild, St. Timothy's Episcopal Church.

The family thanks the staff of Wilson Pines for their care of Emilie for over seven years and especially Wanda Webb who has been her daily caregiver and companion for nearly seven years.
