RALEIGH - Elsie Rogers Lamm, 86, formerly of Wilson, died peacefully at her home in Raleigh on Tuesday February 12, 2013.
Funeral, 2 PM, Friday, February 15, 2013 at Wilson Memorial Service, 2811 Fieldstream Drive N., Wilson. Dr. Gaylord Lehman will officiate. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Wilson.
The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Thursday February 14, 2013 at Wilson Memorial Service and at other times at the home of Donald and Dixie Rogers 5224 Holdens Crossroads, Wilson NC 27893.
A long time member of Bethany Presbyterian Church, Elsie lived her life enjoying God's blessings and blessing the lives of others. She acted as a quiet but strong steward of her Savior who believed "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" and exemplified it in her daily life. She was active in her community enriching the lives of those she touched.
Elsie was born in Wilson and lived there until 2004. An active member of her community she inspired many with her strength, ability to love and unwavering faith in God. Elsie worked at Swinson's furniture for over 30 years and retired in 1991. She fondly recalled the many people she met and served, brightening their lives and homes. During her life, Elsie overcame many adversities most notably as a long term cancer survivor always placing her faith and trust in the Lord to see her through. After moving to Raleigh in 2004, she maintained her close ties to Wilson returning to visit friends and worship at her home church until her health no longer permitted.
Elsie will be remembered as a loving mother always encouraging her children with a kind word and a loving heart. Her open arms and loving spirit allowed her to become a mother, friend and counselor to all who came to know her. She is remembered for the cards and thoughts she always shared and treasured those that were shared with her. Over the past few years she has relied on her unyielding faith to see her through difficult days brightening the days of those who cared for her. Even in her final days she continued to minister to the needs of others, providing a blessing to those who came to care for her.
Elsie is survived by her son Michael Lamm, fiancee', LuAnn Absher, grandchildren, Zoe and Landyn of the home in Raleigh; daughter, Dianne Elliott Harris and husband, Bill Harris, of Raleigh; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Donald Rogers and wife, Dixie Rogers, of Wilson.
She was preceded in death by brothers Willie Rogers and Jessie Rogers and sister, Mary Gray Robbins.
The world is a better place because of how Elsie lived and served her Lord and Savior.
