Greenville - Edna Massey Barnes, 80, died Saturday, December 29, 2007. A Wilson county native, Mrs. Barnes was a daughter of the late A.D. and Bessie Barnes Massey. Upon graduation from Charles L. Coon High School, she worked as a bookkeeper for Mello Ice Cream. On September 6, 1947, she married D. R. "Scoop" Barnes. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past September. In 1958 they moved from Wilson to Morehead City to work with the local con-gregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. The following year they started a family business, Barnes Awning &: Window Company, and retired to Greenville in 2004. Mrs. Barnes enjoyed working in her home, gardening, reading, studying the Bible with friends and taking care of her husband and children. She had many dear friends and extended family whom she loved to entertain with humor and laughter. Funeral, Thursday, 1 PM, Wilson Memorial Service, 2811 Fieldstream Drive, followed by a time of visiting and sharing. The service will be conducted by long-time family friend, James Earl Newman. Surviving is her husband, D.R. "Scoop" Barnes: daughter, Vicki Hall (Mark) of Greenville: son, Joel Barnes of Morehead City: sister, Agnes M. Dulin of Bladenboro: several nieces and nephews.
