WILSON - Dr. Charles Truman Streeter, 88, died Thursday, December 10, 2009.

Funeral, Sunday, 2 PM, Wilson Memorial Service, 2811 Fieldstream Drive, followed by a time of visiting and sharing.

Known to many through the years as "Dr. Streeter", "Doc", and "Truman" by his friends. He was born in Lexington NE to Charles Oesterling Streeter and Edna Lloraine Johnson Streeter and grew up in Lincoln where achieved the level of Eagle Scout at the age of 14. He attended Nebraska Wesleyan University and was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He then graduated from the University of Nebraska School of Medicine as a Family Physician in 1945 with academic honors as Phi Kappa Tau. In World War II, he served in the Navy as a physician in the South Pacific. Upon retirement from the military he established a private medical practice in Bertrand, NE, in 1951. He moved to Richlands in 1955 and then to Jacksonville in 1956 where he was in private practice there for the next 44 years.

Dr. Streeter was a lifetime member of the American Medical and Southern Medical Associations. He served as Chief of Staff of Onslow Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville several times and as President of the Onslow County Medical Society as well as the NC American Cancer Society. Dr. Streeter was a 32nd degree Scottish Rites Mason.

He donated his time and services as the team physician for the Jacksonville High School football team for approximately 35 years. Dr. Streeter donated endless time and energy to many community service organizations such as the Rotary Club, the Jaycees, Shriners' events, and countless community services. He is lovingly known for his never ending kindness and always serving others first.

Surviving is his wife, Wilma Parker Streeter; children, Linda DePierro (John) of Phoenix, AZ; John Streeter (Karen) of Centennial, CO; Kathy Jackson (Brad) of Wilson; Dr. Greg Streeter (Nancy) of Jacksonville; Tom Streeter (Pat) of Raleigh; 11 granddaughters, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
