Dr. Cleon Walton Goodwin, Jr.

Dr. Cleon Walton Goodwin, Jr. of Greely, Colorado passed away May 20, 2024.

A graveside service will be on Thursday, January 30, 2025, 11:00 AM, at Maplewood Cemetery, Wilson.

Cleon was born on July 13, 1943 in Wilson, North Carolina to parents, Dr. Cleon Walton Goodwin and Margaret Abbitt Goodwin. In addition to his parents he was preceded by his brother Harry Abbitt Goodwin.

Dr. Goodwin is survived by his wife Susan Goodwin; daughter, Claire (Trevor) and their daughter, Thea; son, Bryan (Threase) and their son, Declan.

Cleon attended high school at The Hill School in Pottstown Pennsylvania graduating on June 11th, 1961 before attending college at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After graduating from college, Cleon enrolled in medical school at The University of Pennsylvania where he graduated in 1969 before his internship and residency in General Surgery at The University of Pennsylvania Hospital from 1970 – 1977. In 1977, Cleon joined the Army. After serving in the military, he became the Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio Texas from 1979 to 1982. In 1982 Cleon became the Associate professor at Cornell University Medical College – New York, New York until 1995. From 1995 – 2002 he was The Commander and Director for the US Army Institute of Surgical Research Fort Sam Houston Texas. He was Associate professor of Surgery John Hopkins Bayview Medical Center Baltimore, MD from 2002 – 2004. He became The Director of North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley CO from 2005 – 2022.

He was very loved and appreciated for his work in Burn Care by staff and patients and will be missed by family and friends, and he will be forever in our hearts.
