STANTONSBURG -Doris Bogue Parris, 93, died Wednesday, May 26, 2010. Funeral, Saturday, 2 PM, Wilson Memorial Service, 2811 Fieldstream Drive, Wilson, followed by a time of visiting and sharing. Interment, Stantonsburg Cemetery. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-two years, Claudius Earl Parris; parents, William Arthur and Hettie Davis Bogue of Wayne County; sisters, Sallie Futrell, Irene Hamrick, Margaret Batts, Grace Reid, Eloise Futrell and Minnie Eloshway; a brother, Marvin Bogue; a daughter-in-law, Rachel A. Parris. Surviving are daughters, Joyce Grant, widow of Selby Grant, of Kinston and Zellie Jones and her husband, Billy, of Snow Hill; sons, Arnold Parris and wife, Gloria, and Edward Parris and wife, Gladys, all of Wilson, Arthur Parris and wife, Esther, of Kinston; thirteen grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Davis of Wilson and Myra Horton of Greenville. Throughout her life she enjoyed sewing, quilting, crafting, cooking, gardening and fishing. She especially enjoyed her flowers and for many years grew and arranged flowers for her church, Lebanon United Methodist, where she was a member for seventy-four years. She received much recognition for her beautiful Chrismons. Frances Hall and Bobby and Jill Jones were caring neighbors whom she enjoyed through the years. The family is grateful for Frances Parris, Jeannie Owens, Dorise Humphrey and Brittany Newsome who were her devoted caregivers during her declining years and for the compassionate care of the Hospice staff. Memorials are suggested to Lebanon United Methodist Church, 951 Pope Farm Rd, Stantonsburg, NC 27883.
