Donnie Watkins

Donnie Ray Watkins, 72, of Raleigh, died Thursday May 16, 2024.

A graveside service will be Monday, May 20, 11:00 am, at Barnes Family Cemetery, 149 Polly Watson Rd, Fremont , NC 27830. 

A native of Wilson County, he was the son of George Douglas Watkins and Doris Creech Watkins.  After graduating from Lucama High School and Wesleyan College, Donnie spent most of his working life as a regional sales representative for Southeastern Freight Lines. He loved baseball and enjoyed coaching various little league teams and watching Will on the mound at Broughton High School varsity games.

Donnie was preceded in death by his wife June Barnes Watkins and his parents.

He is survived by his son William David Watkins of Raleigh;  other survivors include his brother Doug Watkins of Lucama; sister, Patsy Watkins Luczak and husband, Tom, of Frankford, WV; brother-in-law Kenneth Barnes, and wife, Ann, of Fremont; and several nieces and nephews.

 Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
