ASHEBORO a�" David Edgar Gay, 95, formerly of Saratoga, died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014 at his home.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wilson Memorial Service, 2811 Fieldstream Drive, Wilson, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.
David was born June 29, 1919, to Mary Horton and William Edgar Gay in Pitt County. The second eldest of nine children, he grew up farming and playing baseball with the Owens and Pittman families. He was "selected" to serve in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945, where he served in the 101st Cavalry in France and Germany. He returned from his tour and married Nancy Owens and continued to farm. In 1959, they moved to Wilson, where he was employed by Swift and Company/Dinner Bell. In 2005, at the death of his wife of 58 years he moved to Asheboro. His daughters continued to care for him in their homes until his death.
In addition to his parents and wife, David was also preceded in death by his brothers, Clarence, James, John, and Robert; and his sister, Nannie Lee Prigden.
He leaves behind his daughters, Wanda G. Hollis of Oak Island, and Nancy Lou Kiessler of the home; one granddaughter, Jennifer Cox, and husband, Devin; and two great-granddaughters, Kaegan and Emma Grace Cox; sisters, Kathleen Scott of Kenly, and Francis Harrell, and husband, Elbert, of Fountain; a brother, Paul B. Gay, and wife, Jean, of Sanford; and numerous nieces and nephews.
