MANTEO - William Daniel "Dan" Moore, 74, of Manteo, formerly of Wilson, died Saturday, January 2, 2016.
Funeral, Wednesday, 1 PM, First Baptist Church, Wilson, followed by a time of visiting and sharing. Interment, Maplewood Cemetery.
Dan was born May 19, 1941 in Sampson County to William Hybert and Lina Harrell Moore. He was a graduate of Atlantic Christian College (Barton) in Wilson and received his master's degree from William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA.
Dan's career as an educator began as a teacher and coach in Virginia Beach, VA. However most of his career in education was spent in New Hanover County, NC schools where he served as principal at M.C.S. Noble Middle School until retirement in 1998. He always talked about the wonderful teachers with which he had the priviledge to work.
After retirement, he and his wife Sherron, moved to Manteo in 2011 where he enjoyed his favorite activites of gardening, fishing and playing golf.
Wherever Dan lived, he became actively involved in a church. His service to others was given with great humility - never wanting recognition of his talent of which he gave freely.
Dan leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Sherron Boyd Moore and son, William Robert Moore of Harrells; sisters, Shirley M. Carlton and Emily M. Carr of Wallace; several nieces and nephews. Family was most important to Dan - whether it was his immediate family, church family or friends whom he thought of as family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, PO Box 1467, Wilson, NC 27894 or to Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, PO Box 787, Manteo, NC 27954.
