Daisy Wiggins

WILSON - Daisy Lawrence Wiggins, 90, passed away at her home on October 20, 2013 after a lengthy illness.

Graveside services will be conducted by Rev. Dr. Thomas J. Watkins on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at 11:00 am at Maplewood Cemetery in Wilson. The family will otherwise be at the home.

Daisy was born on January 1, 1923 in Richmond, Virginia to Simon Somerville Lawrence and Daisy Manning Lawrence. They moved to Wilson when Daisy was two when her father accepted a position with Branch Bank and Trust Company. She graduated from Charles L. Coon High School, attended Women's College (UNC-G), and graduated from the University of North Carolina (UNC - CH) in 1944. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority.

Daisy married John Lawrence Wiggins, Jr. on May 15, 1948. She and Jack raised their family in Wilson where they attended First Presbyterian Church. Daisy loved life and especially enjoyed playing bridge with her friends, gardening and attending Carolina football games with Jack! She was a member of The Literary Guild and volunteered as a Red Cross Gray Lady and at the Salvation Army Christmas Doll Giveaway. She loved music and was a benefactor to the Wilson/Barton College Symphony.

In addition to her parents, Daisy was preceded in death by her husband, Jack (on August 15, 2005), stepmother Elsie Barnes Lawrence, sister Mary Lawrence Watts, and brother Simon Somerville Lawrence, Junior.

She is survived by daughter Jennifer Wiggins Moore of Asheville and Wilson, son John Lawrence Wiggins III and daughter-in-law Sheila Barker Wiggins of Wilson, grandchildren Hannah Moore Harrison (Steve) of Charlotte, Reuben Thompson Moore (Nicole) of Olivebridge, N. Y., Winston Nathaniel Moore of Brooklyn, Farrell Leigh Wiggins of Chapel Hill, Barker Elizabeth Wiggins of Wilson, great-grandchildren Alex Parrell Harrison, Katherine Rose Harrison, Lily Grace Harrison, nieces and nephews Carol Watts Basnight, William Bryant Watts, Ann Lawrence Shipman, Simon Somerville Lawrence III and Martha Lawrence Williams, sisters-in-law Louise Wiggins Hackney and Nancy Hollingsworth Lawrence, and special cousins Katherine Manning Skinner and Lilybet Muse Tornquist.
