Charlotte Wallace

Charlotte McCloud Wallace passed away peacefully at the age of 96 on November 26 at Parkwood Village in Wilson, NC.

Charlotte was born October 21, 1927 in Knoxville, TN to Evelyn Davis McCloud and LeRoy McCloud. She was very close to her paternal grandparents. From an early age, Charlotte loved to sing, which led her to the Arthur Jordan Conservatory of Music in Indianapolis. She also attended Butler University.

While in Knoxville, she joined the choir at the Christian Church where she met James G Wallace (Jim), who was studying to become an ordained minister. Charlotte and Jim married in 1945 and together they dedicated their lives to the Christian Church, serving churches in Alabama, Florida, and North Carolina. They retired in Wilson, NC where they had served the First Christian Church for many years.

Charlotte loved being a minister's wife! She served on the North Carolina Commission of Ministry, was a member of the choir, a Sunday School teacher, prayer group leader, and an elder. She is an Elder Emeritus in the First Christian Church.

Family was paramount to Charlotte and she and Jim had 6 children, 11 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren, who affectionately called her Nana. Nana's kitchen table was a popular spot to share stories and connect with one's faith. Charlotte is survived by her children, Sarah Wallace Bunn (Turner) of Wilson, NC, Dr James Phil Wallace (Linda) of Dillon, SC, Jonathan David Wallace (Kathy) of Beaufort, SC, and Michael Gillespie Wallace (Kevin Neal) of Greensboro, NC and her grandchildren and great-children. She is preceded in death by her husband, Rev James G Wallace, and her daughters, Martha Lynn Wallace and Dr Becky Wallace Watson (Larry). Special appreciation is given to her longtime caretakers and friends, the late Gladys Morgan and Wilma Streeter.

Funeral services will be held at First Christian Church of Wilson on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 2pm.

Memorials may be made to the James G. Wallace Scholarship Fund at First Christian Church, PO Box 2702, Wilson, NC 27894.
