Charles Willis Latta, 83, died Thursday, October 11, 2007. He grew up in Wilson County as a son of the late Willie Earl and Ethel Cockrell Latta. Upon graduation from Charles L. Coon High School, he went on to graduate from Atlantic Christian College - now Barton - Class of 1945. He was a member of Phi Delta Gamma and the Air Corps Reserve. Charles worked in sales for Strietmann Biscuit, now Keebler, where he worked his way up to district manager. From there he went to Jack's Cookies in Raleigh and was eventually transferred to Atlanta, GA. Leaving the food products industry in 1978, he opened a dry cleaning business in Lawrenceville, GA, for the next 19 years. The couple decided to return home to Wilson in 1997. Charles always had a smile for everyone he met, loved to tell jokes and was liked and respected by all who knew him. Funeral, Sunday, 2 PM, Wilson Memorial Service, 2811 Fieldstream Drive. Interment, Evergreen Memorial Park. Surviving is his wife of 59 years, Barbara Carraway Latta: daughter, Dawn L. Kirby (Dan) of Kennesaw, GA: granddaughter, Cara Kirby of Kennesaw: sister, Jessie Glidewell of Durham: nieces, Julie G. Gentile (Kenny) of Oak Ridge and Patti G. Wilson (Bill) of Germantown, MD. He also leaves behind Cockrell and Carraway family members who have provided love and support. The family will be at Wilson Memorial Service, Saturday, 7 - 8:30 PM. of Kennesaw, GA; granddaughter, Cara Kirby of Kennesaw; sister, Jessie Glidewell of Durham; nieces, Julie G. Gentile
