ELM CITY - North Carolina Army National Guard Command Sgt. Major Retd (E-9) Charles A. Fields, 73, of the Gardners School community, died Thursday, August 29, 2013.
He served 34 years in the Guard and retired as service manager for Cox Dodge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie Lloyd and Pearl Carlisle Fields, sister, Janice Creech and brother, Dwight Fields.
Funeral, Monday, 11:00 AM, Good News Advent Christian Church, 7000 Holdens Cross Road, Stantonsburg, NC 27883. Interment to follow with military rites in the family cemetery at home.
Surviving is his wife, Mary Ann Speight Fields; daughter, Wendy Bedford (Charlie) and their children, Blake and Luke; daughter, Kristy Turnage (Tim) and their children, Hunter and Cameron; sisters, Laverne Waters (Bo) of Goldsboro and Faye Logan of Rocky Mount; brother, Archie Fields (Jenny) of Wilson and Lake Gaston; the couple also raised two boys, Bruce Fields of Eden and Michael Fields of Greensboro.
