WILSON - Catherine Baxter Anderson "Catty" Clayton, 84, died Thursday, May 8, 2014.
Funeral, Tuesday, 11 AM, Maplewood Cemetery.
She was born September 9, 1929 in Wilson County to Jesse Staton and Bessie Boylston Anderson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles McIver "Bubba" Clayton in August 2009.
Catty graduated from Charles L. Coon in 1947 and from Duke University in 1951 and was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She made her debut at the Terpsichorean Ball in 1948. She was a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and superintendent for many years and served on the parsonage committee. She was past president of the Friends of the Wilson County Public Library Board and she started the Association for Children with Learning Disabilities in Wilson County.
She is survived by her sons, Charles McIver "Keve" Clayton, Jr. and Jesse Anderson Clayton both of Wilson and grandsons, Anderson Reid Clayton and David McIver Clayton; sister-in-law, Mary Breck Clayton of Cary; nephew, Harvey Graves Clayton and wife, Anne, of Cary and three great-nephews.
