WILSON - Carey Hunter Banks, Jr., 79, of Wilson, died Tuesday, January 24, 2012.
A Service of Celebration will be Saturday, 2 PM, First United Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Dan Hensley, Jr. and Rev. Russ Nanney.
Carey was the son of Carey Hunter and Lula Mae Slaughter Banks. He grew up in Wilson and was on the school swim team. He entered the Air Force and was on active duty in Japan for two years.
He returned to Atlantic Christian (now Barton) for his business degree and continued his education at East Carolina in supervising management. He worked for Universal Leaf Tobacco Company until he joined Gallaher Leaf where he remained until retirement in 1994. Carey traveled extensively throughout North and South America, Central America, and Korea. His travel was enough that he was awarded a diploma by the airlines.
Surviving is his wife, Betty Gardner Banks; grandson, Carey H. Banks, IV, of of Wilson and a sister, Dot Barrineau of Mullins,SC and serveral special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Carey H. Banks, III.
The family will be at Wilson Memorial Service, Friday, 7 - 8 PM.
