NASHVILLE - Melvin A. "Bud" Shirley, 76, died September 20, 2014 at the Kitty Askins Hospice Center, Goldsboro.
Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church, Stantonsburg on Sunday, September 22, at 4:00 PM. Visitation will be held at 3:00 PM prior to service. Burial will be in the Stantonsburg Cemetery.
Mr. Shirley was born April 10, 1937, in Greene County to the late Bessie Vick and Claude Shirley. He was a retired field manager with 43 faithful years at S.T. Wooten Corporation and had served in the U. S. Army after graduating from Stantonsburg High School in 1955.
His family includes a daughter, Lynn Shirley Garrett (Johnny) of Raleigh; grandchildren, John and Caroline Garrett of Raleigh; sister, Bessie "Sister" Tyndall of Goldsboro; step-sisters, Jolene Barnette of Wilson and Joan Barnette of Charlotte; niece, Phyllis Tyndall Williamson of Goldsboro; great-niece and nephew Leea Williamson and Jason Moore of Goldsboro; special friend and companion, Ruby Taylor of Stantonsburg and her family: Shane Taylor & Shellie and Dawn & David Grimes and their families, Danny, Randi & DJ, Madison & Andrew, Katie & JD, Nicole & Leon.
Bud was predeceased by his brother, Claud Eugene Shirley.
