Harold Boysen Diemer III, 82, of Wilson, passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, surrounded by his family and his cherished dog, Bella.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Wilson on Friday, November 29, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a visitation.
Boysen was born in Alton, Illinois, to Harold Boysen Diemer, Jr., and Esther Helen Ray Diemer, who both predeceased him. As a young boy, he and his sister, Susan, helped their parents manage a tavern near Alton. When Boysen was 12, his brother Marc was born, who many say could have been his twin. Boysen worked multiple jobs during high school and eventually attended the University of Illinois. After one year, he transferred to the University of Missouri to be closer to Judy, his lifelong love and high school sweetheart. They married during their senior year in 1963.
While in college, Boysen joined the fraternity Alpha Tau Omega, following in the footsteps of his father-in-law, Edward Pogue Foeller. He graduated from the University of Missouri and later earned an MBA from the University of Florida.
After graduation, Boysen and Judy moved to Chicago, but when his job offered an opportunity in the Southeast, they relocated to Wilson, fulfilling Judy’s wish to settle in a small Southern town. Boysen later received an international sales opportunity in Texas, but Judy was adamant about staying in Wilson, where they had established a home and deep friendships. In the early 1970s, Boysen founded Diemer Associates, Inc., a manufacturers’ sales representative agency in the automotive industry. He partnered with his brother, Marc, eventually bringing in his sons, Matthew and Michael, and his nephew, Jordan, building a successful, multi-generational business.
Boysen loved spending time with family and friends at his beach home in Indian Beach, NC, especially enjoying boating and fishing trips with his sons and grandsons. His family and friends in Wilson and beyond will miss him deeply.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Judy Foeller Diemer; his sons, Matthew Edward Diemer (Pamela) of Manakin Sabot, VA, and Michael Boysen Diemer (Linda) of Ocean Isle Beach, NC; his grandchildren, Alexandra Marie Diemer, John Carlstrom Diemer, Sydney Rea Diemer, and Nathaniel Boysen Diemer; his sister, Susan Ray Diemer of Chapin, SC; his brother, Marc Allan Diemer (Robbie) of Supply, NC; and his nephew, Jordan Diemer of Hampstead, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, PO Box 3184, Wilson, NC 27895.
