Blake Murphy

YOUNGSVILLE - Blake Richeson Murphy, 36, died Tuesday, December 18, 2018.

A service for the family was held Saturday at Wilson Memorial Service.

Surviving is his wife, Bethany Scarbrough Murphy; mother and step-father, Ronda Richeson Edwards (David) of Wilson; father, Rick Murphy of Greensboro; sister, Kristen Dempsey (Michael) of Wilson; brother, Connor Murphy of California; maternal grandparents, Bob and Gerry Richeson of Wilson; paternal grandmother, Emily Murphy of Raleigh; father and mother-in-law, Snuffy and Kimarie Scarbrough of Arizona.

Blake attended Greenfield School, Toisnot Middle School and Fike High School graduating in 2000.  He attended N.C. State University and Wake Technical Community College, graduating with a degree in graphic design.

In 2009, Blake married his beloved Bethany and moved to St. Johns, Arizona, where he was employed as an IT specialist with the St. Johns Public Schools system.  His work there earned him special recognition from the superintendent of schools.

Blake enjoyed all things outdoors and hiking was one of his favorites.  His love of animals was legendary among those who knew him, and he would protect even the tiniest insect from harm.  He enjoyed trips and theme parks, especially with his family.  Blake was a staunch Wolfpack and Panthers fan.  He was an avid and skilled gamer and enjoyed his extensive games collection.

During recent years, Blake has been the epitome of courage, always finding positive perspective from which to view his circumstances.  Whenever asked, he would say that he felt better than on the day before, regardless of what he was facing.  He was a unique and special young man and his unceasing and courageous fight was an example to all who were blessed to know him.

The family wishes to express its deep appreciation to Dr. David Schrump and Dr. Dennis Priebat for their extraordinary skill, care and compassion during Blake’s long battle with cancer.
