KENLY - William "Bill" Carey Griffin, Sr, 77, of the Buckhorn community, died Sunday, August 15, 2010. Funeral, Wednesday, 7 PM, Winstead United Methodist Church followed by a time of visiting and sharing. Bill was one of eleven children and a life long resident of Wilson county. Preceding him were brothers, Clyde and Paul. He was a devoted husband, a wonderful father and was loved and cherished by his grandchildren. He served in the Army and eventually retired from Seaboard Coastline Railroad. Although he grew up from very humble beginning, he always gave to others and believed that family was more important than having material possessions. Bill was a very generous person who was always willing to give of himself to help others. Surviving is his wife of 54 years, Jean Stith Griffin; daughters, Robin Lomax of Wilson, B.J. Parker and friend, Jed Hudson, of Wilson, Vicky Harper and husband, Joe, of Wilson; sons, Carey Griffin and wife, Cathy, of Wilson and Greg Griffin (Sonya) of Kenly; grandchildren, Caroline and Garrett Harper, Hannah Lomax, Colton and Connor Griffin, Griffin Parker, McKenna Griffin; sisters, Flora Bass of Goldsboro, Mary Lois Bryan of Newton Grove, Libby Moore of Monroe; brothers, Morrison Griffin, Tom and Leonard Griffin of Elm City, Grady Griffin of Rocky Mount and George Griffin of Goldsboro; family friends, Sheila Seabright and Matthew Lomax. The family will be at the home of Vicky and Joe Harper in Wilson. Memorials are suggested to the Winstead United Methodist Church Music Fund, 1407 Tarboro St SW, Wilson NC 27893.
