Beverly Stevens Fulcher, affectionately known as “Bev”, 75, of Wilson, passed peacefully at home on Thursday, February 27, 2025.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, from 2:00 - 4:00 pm at the Wilson Women’s Club, 402 Broad St., Wilson, NC 27894.
Beverly was born on March 5, 1949 in Winston-Salem to Curtis Eugene and Marilyn Lewis Stevens. The oldest of six siblings, she developed maturity and responsibility at an early age. She attended East Carolina University where she graduated with her BS in Education. While at ECU, she met the love of her life, Gene Fulcher. She and Gene married, made Wilson home, and raised two beautiful daughters. Later in life, Bev would be blessed with her precious grandchildren, Haley and Mason. Throughout her life, Bev excelled as a devoted teacher, wife, mother, and grandmother.
Beverly taught elementary and middle school grade levels in Wilson and Edgecombe Counties and at the Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf. As a teacher, she was uncompromising in her own preparations and expected the same from her students. After retirement, neighbors would often see her enjoying walks with her beloved miniature dachshunds, Daisy, Rosie, and Abbey.
She had a fondness for beach music and loved shag dancing. She and Gene enjoyed many weekends with friends and family at their houseboats on Lake Gaston, and later, on the Pamlico River. Beverly thoroughly enjoyed flying, cruising and traveling. She was fortunate to visit numerous Caribbean and European destinations throughout her life, having a special affection for St. Martin.
Bev was a dedicated fan of her ECU Pirates, enjoying home football games by tailgating on the RV in Greenville for the weekend. Though small in stature, she could talk football with the best!
She was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and Marilyn Stevens.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Dewey Eugene “Gene” Fulcher; daughters, Heather Barnes and Holly Hart; granddaughter, Haley Hart Peoples (Mike); grandson, Mason Barnes; sisters, Jan Hogan (John) and Kay Walentuk; and brothers, Gene Stevens, Robert Stevens (Angie), and John Stevens (Kari).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Samaritan’s Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
