WILSON - Betty Sawyer High, 75, died Wednesday, January 5, 2011. Funeral, Saturday, 2 PM, Wilson Memorial Service. Entombment, Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson. She was associated with the Holiday Inn in Wilson and Rocky Mount. Betty started as a hostess at the Holiday Inn and retired as General Manager. She attended the Holiday Inn University which enabled her to do the fine jobs that she did. She received many awards in each area for a job well done. In her spare time in the late 1980's she became a fashion model for many of the department stores in Greenville. Betty was a friend to all she came in contact. She loved people. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, H.V. High, Jr.; her parents, James Carl Sawyer of Walstonburg and Annie Dare Dawson Sawyer of Eureka; sisters, Luella S. Honeycutt of Lucama and Janie S. Lamm of Wilson; brother, James Roy Sawyer of Wilson; sister-in-law, Peggy H. Helmer of Elm City. She is survived by her sons, Howard Vernon High, III and wife, Candi, of Greenville, Carl Steven High of Arkansas and William "Tony" High of Wilson; daughters, Deborah H. Shaw and husband, John, of Florida and Peggy H. Fulghum and husband, Paul, of Sims; grandsons, Carl Steven High, Jr. of Wilson and Asher Matthew High of Greenville; great-granddaughter, Kayla Mychelle High of Wilson and step-grandson, Chase Fulghum of Sims; 18 nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Gwen H. Thorne of Greensboro and Christine Pridgen Sawyer of Southport. Betty will be greatly missed by all of her children, for she was a friend as well as a Mom. Faith filled her days with joy and light. Her way of life was love; she lived by all that's good and right, In Praise of him above. Our family has enjoyed so many of God's wonderful blessings, love, faith, and happiness with a deep and genuine caring for each other. But one of the greatest blessings of all was having a Mom like ours because she always has been a very special example of God's love. We will miss you everyday of our lives, we thank God for letting you be our Mom. We love you so much....from all of your children. Our family would also like to give a special thanks to Dr. Christine Barton and staff of Wilson Medical Associates, Dr. Dolphin Overton of Wilson, Sonja Sutton of Colorado, and the UNC Heart Transplant Team in Chapel Hill for all of the special care they gave our mother and family of the last 13 years. High, UNC Medical Foundation, 880 MLK, Jr. Blvd, Chapel Hill NC 27514 The family will be at the funeral home, Friday, 7-8:30 PM and other times at 3619 B Eagle Point Ln, Wilson.
