Benjamin Franklin “Bennie” Scott, Jr., 92, of Wilson, died Saturday, March 15, 2025.

A visitation will be at Wilson Memorial Service Thursday, 6:00-7:30 PM.

We honor and celebrate the life of Bennie Scott, a remarkable man whose legacy of service, kindness, and joy touched the lives of many. Born in Edgecombe County, North Carolina on February 2nd, 1933, Bennie was a pillar of the Wilson and Belhaven, NC communities.

Bennie proudly served his country as a corporal in the Army Infantry of the 8th Division for five years and continued his dedication to service with 19 years in the Dixie Division of the National Guard. His leadership extended to his role as the commander of the American Legion in Belhaven, NC, where he inspired many with his commitment and integrity.

A true community leader, Bennie was the Boy Scout troop master of Troop 80 and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Belhaven, NC, and an active participant in the Lion's Club in Kinston, NC. His professional life was marked by his tenure as Vice President of the Communication Workers of America and his 37 years of dedicated service at Carolina Telephone and Telegraph, starting in 1959.

In 1967, Bennie was honored as Man of the Year in Belhaven, NC, a testament to his significant contributions to the community. Bennie had a heart full of love for everyone which he expressed through his volunteer work with the Special Olympics and his role as the beloved train driver at the Wilson Recreation Department. His jovial spirit brought smiles to countless faces, and he was known for his exceptional portrayals of Santa and the Easter Bunny, bringing joy to children's homes, nursing homes, and the Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf.

He is survived by his daughters Callie Ann Grady of the home and Velvet Dew of Wilson; son, Bennie Scott III (Melanie) of North Augusta, SC; grandchildren, Thomas and Benjamin Grady of Wilson and Heather Rosa (Alex) of Asheville.

Above all, Bennie was a devoted father, grandfather, and friend. His contagious laugh and youthful spirit will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. He truly cared about his community and others, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and service.

As we say goodbye, let us remember the joy, laughter, and love that Bennie brought into our lives. His memory will live on in our hearts forever.
