WILSON - Alec Parker Flowers, 84, died Tuesday, November 9, 2010. Funeral, Friday, 11 AM, First Baptist Church followed by a time of visiting and sharing. Alec graduated from Charles L. Coon High School. He was drafted into the Army in 1944 and was discharged as a Staff Sergeant. After graduating from Duke, he returned to Wilson to operate Flowers Shoe Store on Tarboro Street and in Parkwood Mall for over 60 years. A people person, he enjoyed his many customers and always remembered their shoe size. He was happiest on the golf course or fishing on the beach at Hatteras. He especially enjoyed fellowship with his Paraclete Sunday School Class. He served his church as a Deacon, Trustee, Teacher and Sunday School Director. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara Cline Flowers; his children, Diane Brooks (Paul) of Zionsville, IN, Parker Flowers (Kristi) of Raleigh, Steve Flowers (Kathryn) of Waynesboro, VA and Amy Shore of Franklin, TN; eight grandchildren, Hannah, Harper Grace, Zeke and Jeremiah Shore, Katie and Carly Brooks and Morgan and David Flowers and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Radio Fund, First Baptist Church, PO Box 1467, Wilson NC 27894 or to UNC Lineberger Cancer Center, 450 West Drive, CB 7295, Chapel Hill, NC 27599.
