EUREKA - Max Fulghum Rose, 81, peacefully completed his life’s journey Friday, March 4, 2022 while surrounded by family in the home of his son and daughter-in-law.
Funeral, Monday, 11:00 AM, Eureka Cemetery with Masonic Rites. The family will receive friends at the home of Todd and Elizabeth Rose, 841 Turner Swamp Rd, Fremont.
Max fiercely loved his family. Especially his granddaughters and great granddaughters. His son, Todd, was his pride and joy and together they started Complete Lawn Care where they worked side by side for many years. He loved his daughter-in-law, Elizabeth, like she was one of his own and in his last few months on this earth she played a large roll in providing his care at home.
He loved his community and was always helping wherever he saw a need. He was a devoted volunteer fireman and member of the Eureka Ruritan Club. He had a special love for being outside where you could find him fishing, working on cars, tending to the garden and riding the golfcart. On the weekend you could find him at the race track cheering on his nephew, Greg, in the Black Pearl.
Max worked hard all his life and never slowed down. He retired as a lieutenant from the Goldsboro fire department in 1993.
Max was very involved in the life of his grandchildren and was affectionately known as “PaPa.” He never missed a birthday, and would randomly call to tell them, “just had you on my mind.” He took them to breakfast on Saturday mornings and spoiled them rotten with every chance he had.
He was a devoted husband to Kay for nearly 60 years. Though their courtship was a short 6 months, their love for one another built a family legacy of love and devotion.
Max was social by nature and was always riding the roads. He spent countless hours cracking jokes and shooting the breeze with his buddies at RB Crawford’s store and the gas stations in Eureka and Pikeville.
His light, love and laughter left a permanent mark on this world and he will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
He is survived by his wife, Kay Frazier Rose; son, Todd Rose (Elizabeth) of Eureka; granddaughters, Anna Rose Shivar (Garrett) of Seven Springs and Amber Rose of Eureka; great-granddaughters, Caroline and Ava Shivar; sister, Cherry Rose Hinson of Goldsboro.
Max was preceded in death by his parents, Noel Braxton Rose and Ida Mae Fulghum Rose and brother Noel Dwight Rose.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to 3HC Hospice, 2402 Wayne Memorial Dr, Goldsboro, NC 27534, Masonic Home for Children, 600 College St, Oxford, NC 27565 or to Heart of David Ministries, PO Box 3037, Eureka, NC 27830.
